Ben Krakauer & Duncan Wickel

$12 advance / $15 door
Banjo player Ben Krakauer, who has toured with legendary David Grisman, and bow-stringed instrumentalist Duncan Wickel, a two-time performer on CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, will join together for this special performance.
Krakauer is a five-string banjoist, composer, and ethnomusicologist with roots in bluegrass, jazz, and old-time music. He was a founding member of the bluegrass/jazz/Latin/pop string band Old School Freight Train and toured with mandolinist and Dawg music founder David Grisman.
He has conducted ethnographic research in West Bengal, India and Bangladesh since 2010, and has studied and performed Bāul-Fakir music with Basudeb Baul, Amirul Fakir, Mansur Fakir, and others. Krakauer recently joined the faculty of Warren Wilson College to teach banjo and ethnomusicology.
Wickel—who has played at White Horse Black Mountain numerous time in duet with Akira Satake—is a world-class musician, singer, writer and inventor of the Wickelbuckle, a combination wire frame and strap apparatus that cradles a violin or viola. The Boston Globe called him “a considerable talent…as persuasive in a traditional ballad as he is country fiddling or ripping through cascading classical flourishes or atonal double stops.”
In 2016, Duncan performed on two consecutive episodes of CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He has toured and recorded with major folk artists including Rising Appalachia, Molly Tuttle, The Duhks, John Doyle, Karan Casey, Ruth Moody, Rushad Eggleston, and many others.
