In true pub fashion, The White Horse has hosts a traditional Irish style free session every Tuesday night. Sessions are in many ways the heart and soul of Irish traditional music, a place for players to share tunes and socialize. It’s not a performance, but rather an informal situation in which listeners are welcome to participate, whether offering encouragement, singing along on a chorus, or asking questions about the music and instruments. White Horse sessions regularly draws players from as far away as Waynesville, Cullowhee, Rutherfordton and even Clayton, Georgia.
Come join us in a long musical tradition spanning hundreds of years.
FREE Tuesdays 6:45 until 8:45pm.
Then, starting at 8:45pm, White Horse hosts an open mic, characterized by performers getting significant attention to their sound. A first-rate sound engineer is attentive, getting the most out of every participant. Several open mic players have gone on to perform their own shows at White Horse. A few are now making their way up the ladder of entertainers in this area. We’re proud of them. Everyone who participates is accorded the courtesy of attention and positive feedback. All this has led to performances at a very high level at our open mic but all are truly welcome.
There are ten performance slots each week. A sign-up sheet is placed on the bar at precisely 8 PM. The first ten are the performers of the week. Come join us.
